At Computing Lab, accessible from computinglab.co.uk (and subdomains), one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by Computing Lab and how we use it. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Computing Lab is a Data Controller of your information.
Computing Lab is registered with the office of the Information Commissioner for processing personal data. Our registration number is: ZB087130.
Computing Lab processes personal information provided to us by a teaching institution to enable us to offer our software service to the institution concerned.
Computing Lab stores the following limited personal data on students (pupils):
- First Name
- Last Name
- Institution-issued Email Address
- Class Name
Student's first name and last name are used to identify them to their teacher and to associate their assigned tasks and results to them.
First name and last name are also used on screen to confirm ownership of the session that students are using.
Class Name is used to group students, assigned tasks and results together.
Institution-issued Email Address is used to prevent duplicate accounts. As Google (just released) and Microsoft sign in is being developed currently, email addresses will soon be used for identification of a student when using single sign on (SSO).
Computing Lab stores following limited personal data on individual teachers:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Institution-issued Email Address
Teacher's first name and last name are used to identify them to their administrator and to associate their assigned classes to them.

Teachers access Computing Lab from a set of login details that are randomly generated when they are added by an administrator. These can be changed at any time through the homework manager.
Regarding sharing, disclosing or sharing data:
- Computing Lab will not share student's or teacher's personal data with third parties.
- Computing Lab will never sell any personal data to a third party.
- Computing Lab will not disclose student's personal data to a third party without the institution's consent (unless legally required to do so).

- Last name of subscribing teacher
- Position of subscribing teacher
- Address of institution
- Website address of institution
- Telephone number of institution

Security
Computing Lab will take every reasonable precaution to protect all personal information supplied by institutions. Personal data will be stored using Google Cloud secure servers, which have a very high level of physical and software-based security. Computing Lab developers use titan security keys as a method of two-factor authentication to access databases for development purposes.
Data Access
Student data can be used by teachers in their institution to create reports and spreadsheets on student results. These can be used on their local machines.
The subscribing teacher will hold the main administration account and will be able to add teachers and set teacher permission levels.
Teachers from an institution with permission level 2, level 1 or with the main administration account can add, modify or delete individual student records for their institution.

Payments and Subscription Data
Invoicing is managed through our third-party product reseller; Paddle. Paddle provides Computing Lab with payment functionality. Paddle is not able to access, store or process student or teacher data, only details of invoices for the associated institution. This data is collected after a subscription form is completed and is limited to:
- Subscribing teacher's full name
- Subscribing teacher's institution-provided email address
- Institution name
- Institution address
- Purchase order number (optional)
- Finance office's institution-provided email address (optional)
- Another institution-provided email address for copying in (optional)

Please note: We no longer use Paddle's subscription features to store card details and autocharge a saved card annually. If you feel you have been charged unexpectedly, contact us and we will refund the payment or cancel the invoice.
Log Files
Computing Lab follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analysing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Cookies
Like any other website, Computing Lab uses 'cookies'. Our cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customising our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information. Cookies are stored in visitor's web browsers and do not personally identify them.
Computing Lab uses session cookies to manage both student's and teacher's sessions. A session lasts for 12 hours. After this, the user must re-authenticate.
Computing Lab integrates with a third party "chat" provider (tawk.io) so that chat support is available in the homework manager (accessible by teachers only). This uses cookies to maintain its state between tabs and sessions. Chat cookies are browser-specific, so each teacher will have their own, private chat sessions.

Computing Lab does not host any adverts on its website(s), domains or subdomains at this time.
Children's Information
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe and/or monitor and guide their online activity.
Computing Lab stores student's personal data provided by the relevant teaching institution. Computing Lab does not knowingly collect any other personal identifiable information from students. If you think that your student(s) provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately, and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
Online Privacy Policy Only
Our Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website regarding the information that they shared and/or collect in Computing Lab. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website and subdomains.
Notification of Changes
If we make a change to this privacy policy, we will notify subscribing institutions by email.
